Cleaning Terracotta Tiles

Terracotta tiles are typically ideal for contemporary and Mediterranean inspired homes they are a very sturdy and vibrant tile and with correct cleaning your terracotta roof will live a long life. Terracotta tiles are naturally moist and known to develop algae and moss, luckily there are products on the market which will help remove any grime and if using a scraper be careful not to damage your tile. Terracotta tiles should be washed with clean water and then apply a friendly anti fungal solution. This will ensure any grime or moss will be removed. You can then use a pressure washer to clean your terracotta tiles using a 1% household bleach to water ratio. Keep the nozzle 1 foot away from your tiles while using the washer. We ideally recommend washing your tiles yearly.

Cleaning Concrete Tiles

Concrete tiles are extremely versatile they can be made to look like wood, slate or stone which makes your roof attractive but also cost effective. Concrete tiles are strong and durable they are suitable in all weather conditions and are easy to clean.  One of the best methods for cleaning concrete tiles is with a pressure hose. Keep the water pressure 1 foot away from your concrete tiles to ensure they stay intact. Water blast concrete tiles and remove any fungal or moss you may want to spend extra time on hard to remove areas.

Cleaning Slate Tiles

Slate roof tiles have a lengthy history and are commonly known for high quality. They do come with a high cost however with correct maintenance they can have a long life and will remain looking presentable. We recommend combining 3.5 litres of warm water with ¼ cup of mild soap or dish detergent, use this mixture to scrub gently any mould or rust spots that you are able to reach. Wash any soap residue and remaining bits with a gentle spray from a garden hose. By regularly cleaning a slate roof you can avoid problems and keep your roof in top shape.

Metal roofs are generally low maintenance and are capable of protecting the interior of your home. Metal roofs are energy efficient and will typically be simple to clean. To clean a metal roof wash the surface with a mild solution of pure soap or kitchen detergent in warm water. Clean with a sponge or soft cloth or soft nylon brush. Rinse your roof immediately with clean water from your garden hose to remove any traces of soap or detergent.
